How Many Calories Do You Burn Playing Golf?

By Chris Moore •  Updated on 05/16/22

Wondering how many calories you burn during a round of golf?

Whether you’re carrying your clubs, using a push cart, or riding a cart, we’ll help you determine how many calories you burn while golfing!

Let’s get right into it, but before we do, we have to clarify there’s no way of knowing exactly how many calories you’ll burn in a round of golf.

We’re going to do our best to give you an informed estimate, but there are too many factors to provide an exact number (such as your weight, course elevation, etc).

How many calories do you burn walking while carrying clubs?

Carrying your own bag of golf clubs will obviously burn more calories than if you were to ride in a cart.

Walking 18 holes equals about four miles, and when you factor in the weight of the bag you’re carrying, you’ll burn between 1,500-2,000 calories in a single round.

And if you were to play 9 holes carrying your clubs, you would burn around 750-1000 calories.

How many calories do you burn walking with a push cart?

You’d be surprised to know that walking the golf course with a push cart burns only slightly less calories than carrying your clubs.

Walking 18 holes with a push cart will help you burn between 1,300-1,800 calories in a single round.

And if you were to only play 9 holes with a push cart, you’d burn around 650-900 calories.

How many calories do you burn walking with a caddy?

Walking the course with a caddy means you won’t be carrying or pushing your bag around, making it much less strenuous on your body.

So if you were to walk 18 holes with a caddy, you’d only burn between 800-1,200 calories during the round.

And if you were to only play 9 holes with a caddy, you’d burn around 400-600 calories.

How many calories do you burn playing golf riding a cart?

And last but not least, riding a golf cart while playing will burn the least amount of calories.

Although there is still a lot of walking involved, you should expect to burn between 600-800 calories during the round.

And if you were to only play 9 holes while riding a cart, you’d burn about 300-400 calories.

Final thoughts

In conclusion, golf is a great form of exercise whether you’re carrying your clubs, using a push cart, or riding in a cart.

Walking the course is a great way to get some fresh air and enjoy the outdoors while burning calories, but no matter your preferences, you’ll still be burning calories and getting in better shape on the course!

Go out to your local course, have some fun, and get your exercise in!
